Your CV has been submitted and your application form completed,You’re ahead of the pack and have just received a call for an interview. What do you do next?The interview itself is often the most stressful part when it comes to finding your next job.The decision to hire or reject you for the job is made at the interview stage.
If you want all your hard work so far to be rewarded then you need to do you very best during the interview.If you have a bad interview then it is likely that all your efforts to secure the job have been in vain.
1.Make a positive impression.
Always dress well for the interview, in clothing which is appropriate.Ensure you are dressed in a professional manner, regardless of the vacancy you are applying for.
2. Do some groundwork prior to the interview.
Having a good understanding about the company you are applying to work at will always leave a good impression.This will equip you with material to answer many of the questions the interviewer will ask. So, if you are being interviewed for vacant Sainsbury’s jobs, do some research on how the company has developed.You will be asked to describe what skills and knowledge you can bring to the organisation.If you have already researched the potential employer you should be able to answer this question with some degree of confidence.
3. Watch Your Body Language
Many of the interviewers are well versed in body language, and you will find that, throughout the interview, they will be looking for hints about your personality from the way you act, talk, and move.Don’t do strange things which your hands and arms which you would not do in an every day situation.You should sit and stand in a way that shows you are relaxed but professional.You should not lie about your qualifications or achievements as many interviewers will check what you have told them.Maintain appropriate levels of eye contact throughout the interview, don’t slouch or cross your arms defensively.
4. Be confident.
Walk in with a purpose. Answer with a purpose. Try not to be too self-conscious.When speaking and answering questions you should have a tone of confidence in your voice.Do not be afraid to say you don’t know the answer to the question, it is better than fumbling for words.If you answer with confidence then the employer will feel you are competent – possibly just the right person for the job.
